Statement of Purpose

My work in Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts has shown me that no problem belongs to just one field. Every topic connects to others (even when we do not expect it). This portfolio shows how I learn by combining ideas and by exploring issues from more than one direction.

Studying across disciplines has made my education very flexible. It has also helped me discover skills that work in many careers. I can write, research, communicate, and analyze information. These abilities prepare me for work in public relations, advertising, journalism, sales, and marketing (all careers that depend on strong messages and clear ideas). I enjoy interdisciplinary work because it gives me freedom. I can look at one question from different angles and create meaning through writing, storytelling, and media.

The projects in this portfolio show my growth as a student. My Critical Project uses sociology, psychology, and journalism together to study mental health stigma. My podcast shows the creative side of my learning and how I connect course readings with real problems. My sociology paper shows my ability to explain inequality and support ideas with research.

Together, these samples show how I think and how I communicate. They also show why interdisciplinary study matters. It helps me understand problems more completely and gives me tools to explain ideas to others. This portfolio is not only a collection of assignments. It is a record of how I have grown as a communicator (and as a future professional who wants to work with people and ideas).
